Default Just how good has the D been?

vs. Toronto (16 against)
6 points- TD, 5 plays/85 yards
7 points- KR TD
3 points- FG, 3 plays/6 yards (Held to FG after Cornish fumbled on Stamps 27 yd line)

vs. Hamilton (22 against)
7 points- KR TD
1 point- Single
3 points- FG, 3 plays/8 yards (Held to FG after Cats blocked punt deep in Stamps territory.)
1 point- Single
7 points- TD, 6 plays/75 yards
3 points- FG, 9 plays/72 yards

vs. Toronto (27 against)
2 points- Conceded safety
2 points- Conceded safety
3 points- FG, 4 plays/15 yards (Argos took over on Stamps 51)
3 points- FG, 7 plays/87 yards
3 points- 6 plays/33 yards
2 points- Conceded safety
1 point- Single
3 points- FG, 4 plays/25 yards (Stamps forced TOD, Labinjo penalty sustained drive to allow FG to be kicked)
6 points- TD, 4 plays/45 yards (Argos took over on Stamps 45)
2 points- 2 pt conversion

Saskatchewan (20 against)
7 points- TD, 6 plays/75 yards
3 points- FG, 5 plays/62 yards
1 point- Single
2 points- Conceded Safety
7 points- TD, 4 plays/61 yards (Garbage time)

85 points against:
8 FGs (24 pts) resulting from FGs. Half these FGs were not the fault of the D but rather offensive mistakes/incompetent STs.
5 TDs (35 pts) resulting from offensive TDs. 1 of those TDs was in garbage time with the game already decided & backups in.
4 Conceded safeties (8 points) by Burke Dales
4 Singles (4 pts)
2 TDs (14 pts) resulting from KRs

26 of the 85 points against have been given up by our special teams (31% of allowed points)

This D has been ridiculously good so far. If that unit stays healthy they are going to be scary good come Labour Day.

The only word of caution I'd give is that the FG kicking we've been up against to this point hasn't exactly been lights out. It's nice to chalk up those singles (as well as Congi hitting the upright, as well as the missed kicks that Murphy has run out) as given up by special teams, but we've allowed the opposition to get into field goal range on those occasions, nonetheless.

Is this D fantastic? Absolutely! But one has to wonder whether they can keep this level of play going for the rest of the season and into the playoffs...

I think they can certainly keep it up, as long as the key guys can stay healthy! But then, that is usually the big thing, eh?

The singles could really go either way. I included them as special teams points because if Murphy was to return a long missed FG for 6 or we blocked a FG and returned it for a TD, I would consider that a special teams TD, not a defensive TD. To me, it goes both ways.

I also see no reason for the D to slide if they're all healthy. The only guys who are a little older are Lysack and Claybrooks. Lysack should be able to stay fresh with Fraser taking reps from him as he continues to develop and Claybrooks will get the odd game off during the stretch run to keep him ready for the playoffs.

Call me pleasantly surprised by the FANTASTIC play of the defence through the first four games. All this without Labinjo being a factor really. If Big Mike could ever get back close to his '08 form look out rest of the league. With or without Labinjo if they can keep this level up it's going to bode well during the regular season and hopefully success in the playoffs. *fingers crossed*

Cates is having a good year as well, of course, but there aren’t many shining lights on our team this year, other than the fact that we’ve won 5 games. Our defence is average to below average, and on offence our OL is weak and we have an average to below average receiving corps." YYCRF - September '10

the guy i've been impressed with is raymond. i thought we were in trouble when he got moved to linebacker but he's really held his own - made some big plays so far.
looks like we found a new little man linebacker to replace shannon james.

Maybe Albert 'Heavy as Hell' Haynseworth will end up in the CFL, too!

You guys wanna take Bubba Brown off our hands for Precious?

A tall old white guy who's skills are dimishing rapidly.... for an overweight canuck who can't dominate the game anymore...

Guess its a wash!

I think they can keep it up if the offence can keep them off the field. Not saying that hasn't happened, but as long as they don't have to play too much of each game to keep us in it, they'll hold up and keep it up. Plus, motivationally speaking, its easier to stay pumped when you know your offence will work with what you give them!

Watched him last night. He's good at clogging up the line and shutting down the interior run game, but not much of a threat when it comes to rushing the passer.

Your defence has been quite good. LBs really stand out. Browner and Anderson get away with too much though. Good DL too.
Unlike Bronco, most can see Brown is fine.
