Aaah man, this sucks. I was really hoping he'd be back.
The best of luck to him in the NFL.

That hurts
The 2nd half of last season he was very effective...worries me a tad, we weren't that deep at the position to begin with.
Was Huges cut after camp and brought back after injury? I cant remember who that was...what a cool story for him though.

Too bad for us. All the best to him, and maybe we will find a good replacement. Here's to hoping.

Hughes still had the option year left on his contract with the Stampeders, but players have an out-clause allowing them to shop themselves around the NFL prior to mid-February. And Hughes admits it wasn't easy to leave the team that gave him a chance.
"Especially after the year we just had," said Hughes. "It was an awesome year, and I appreciate Calgary 100 per cent just for bringing me back after I got cut. I was just happy to be a part of that calibre of a team that we had."

Good luck to him. He sure made the highlight reel a lot in the year that he was here. I seem to remember advocating that he be given consideration as our defensive player of the year.
Seems to me that DEs/DLs are the players most likely to transition from the CFL to the NFL.

We did have a guy named Rowell who had an interception against BC in the last game of the season. It is the play where he lost his helmet. He could be a guy who would get a look. I wonder if T. George may be back?

It is Charleston HugHes, not Huges...or Huggy Bear.
Rowell did have an okay game against BC last season but he wasn't really that noticeable for pressure on the QB or tackles for losses (which was Hughes forte). This move would be a wash if Tay George was coming back (and last I heard he was cut by the Saints) but this move kind of reaffirms my hope that Gavin Walls would've made it to free agency.
We need another skilled pash rusher on that side to take the pressure off of Labinjo, hopefully the scouts find another gem like Hughes....then cut him...then bring him back

Dolphins snagged him off waivers from the Saints.

He isn't anymore, he is technically a CFL Free Agent.

I think it depends on if he were to come back this year or next and beyond...or was he a UFA anyways?

He went to the NFL in his option year last year (2008) and if he would have come back to the CFL last year he would have been Stamps property. However, in 2009 he is an UFA...

I think guys like George should remain Stamps property if he ever returns to the CFL. We found him, and developed him, we should get some return on our investment. If he came back and signed elsewhere, it'd be a bit of a kick in the teeth.
