Sorry, SAM, WIL ? Could you possibly go over these and any other abbreviations.

The three linebacker positions are known as MAC, SAM, and WIL.
MAC is the middle linebacker. His weight usually ranges from 220 to 245 and he needs to be able to shut down the run. Often he needs to be able to get off the blocks of 300 lb offensive linemen, so he needs to be big and strong. He does have some coverage responsibilities, but these are secondary.
SAM is the strong side outside linebacker. The strong side can be designated as the wide side of the field or the side of the offense that has more players. The SAM in the CFL has evolved into more of a bigger defensive back than a linebacker. Pass coverage is the primary responsibility of this player - covering slots or the fifth receiver.
WIL is the weak side outside linebacker. The weak side is either the short side, or the side with fewer offensive players. Typically, the WIL is like the MAC, he has big run stopping responsibilities. His pass coverage assignments would be more challenging than the MAC, however. Sometimes he would cover a running back releasing on a pattern, for example.
MAC and WIL can often be played by the same player. Armour played both positions for us in 2008. SAM is more comparable to a defensive halfback. Keon Raymond backed up the SAM position last year and later started at defensive halfback. This year our safety of the past two years, Collins, is penciled in to be our SAM.
There are other differences - Browner plays the short side corner, which is better for a big, physical player like he is. Anderson plays the wide side corner, which is better for a speed demon because there is so much room to cover. The short side is generally a preferred place to throw for QBs because it isn't as far a throw. The wide side out can turn into a 60 yard pass in this league.

Great, thanks. For a minute there I thought we had just signed new LBs with the names Mac, Will and Sam.

Harrison sounds like he's got a nasty injury.

Actually Huff said on the radio tonight that Harrison only has a sprained MCL and not a torn one. He should be back training in a couple of weeks.
Also, for the training camp roster record, Cody Pickett was added yestrday and flew into town this afternoon. Huff hinted we would see him in some action on Sunday.
Keep up the good work on this thread, Chill.

Somebody came to their senses thankfully.

Childress, is it your intention to show who you think is ahead in each position? I noticed you have Talley above Bryant, which would be interesting. If that was intentional, I'm interested as to why.
Also, what does the purple color denote?
Edit: purple is this year's draft picks, I think.

It is more of a position chart than a depth chart. Purple is this year's draft picks, or non-counters as they are sometimes called because they don't count in your training camp numbers. As we get to the end of camp and the rosters are set, that designation begins to mean very little.
I think the guys that were healthy, but left behind from the Edmonton game, (Reynolds, Cornish, Bryant, etc.) are locks to make the team and likely start.

Who is Spenser Williams who is listed on the Stamps depth chart here:
http://www.stampeders.com/common/upl...sterDepth2.pdf
at left tackle, but he is not on their roster? They have never announced his signing.

I have taken the practice roster off the depth chart. There are still about 8 guys to go to the injured list.
