Default Rockin' the Retro...

Loving those retro helmets with the stripe the players practised in yesterday but - are they authentic? I don't recall the Stamps ever sporting red facemasks...

This directly form the mouth of long-time equipment man George Hopkins. Stamps wore red facemasks in 1977 and 1978. George says he knows this for a fact because he was with the team back then and had to paint the masks himself!

Not the best photo, obviously, but even with a black-and-white image you can tell that Willie Burden's facemask is red.

Yes, but no stripe! Can Hoppy vouch for the stripe AND the red mask?

Just confirmed that 10 (Willie Burden), 22 (Tom Forzani) and 77 (John Helton) are available off the rack. An on-line store is in the works but maybe if you called the Stamps Store (403-289-4441) they could arrange something in regar...ds to shipping.
Three of my all time fav Stamps. I was always Tom Forzani playing football in the backyard. Oh, and it looks like they are finally getting an on-line Stamps Store...

I got that tidbit from someone from the Stamps responding to someone's query on Facebook. Just a guess but I would think that they would hang it off of their Stampeders.com website.

At QB, I was Liske, too, and on the receiving end, I was Terry Evanshen.

At MLB, I was Wayne Harris or nothin' at all...

My CFL team back in the day: Loved these guys... MY team would kick serious ass.
QBs: Peter Liske, Ken Ploen, Don Jonas, Russ Jackson & Tom Wilkinson (either as an Argo or Eskimo)
RB's... Dave Raimey, Leo Lewis, Jim Evenson, Bill Symons, Vic Washington
OL: Bill Frank, Danny Nykoluk.
Receivers: Margene Adkins, Ken Nielsen, Rick Shaw, Jim Young, Johnny Rodgers
DLine: Wayne Smith, Ed McQuarters, Bill Baker, Joe Critchlow, Dick Suderman
Linebackers: Phil Minnick, Tom Brown, Ray Nettles, Wayne Harris, Jerry Campbell, Mark Kosmos
DB's: Doug Strong, Peter Ribbins, Dick Thornton, Gene Lakusiak, Larry Fairholm
Punter: Ed Ulmer
Kicker: Ted Gerela

If I was going to get throwback jerseys those would be the players I would get...

Three guesses as to who I was at QB....

At receiver, I was either Evenshan or Forzani. Swinging out of the backfield I was Rudy Linterman.

Oh...and the Stamps never wore a helmut that had both a stripe and red face mask at the same time (at least, not from the 70s. I think they might have in early 80s. I have a photo of Danny Bass with a stripe and dark face mask, but it's in B & W). So, I'm calling inauthentic.

The Stamps facemask was grey in the 80's. Again, may be a little thing but if they can't get the little details down then why do it?

But from the picture they did use red facemasks, right?

If Hopkins says they did - they did. But I'm curious about the red masks with the silver stripe - I honestly can't remember seeing those... (authentic or not - I think they look great)

They did have red facemasks in 77 and 78, but NOT with the silver stripe on the helmut. There was never a silver stripe WITH a red facemask. These two things were never part of the same uniform.

That's how I remember it, too.
