So in other words we'll have our best offensive lineman and perhaps the best guard in the league back unless another NFL team signs him? I am attempting to contain my excitement. Not only will this strengthen our offensive line in terms of both opening holes for Joffrey and protecting Burris, but it will give us more flexibility to get the best possible players on the field. For instance we can play one more of our many import receivers.

24 hours to clear waivers, 10 days to sign with another team...or he's ours.

Thats very good news for Stamps fans. The Fish must have an awesome o-line for Dmitri not to even be kept around as the 7th or 8th OL..... or maybe he didn't glom onto the NFL system where there's no one-yard zone!!!!!!

Things are shaping up tremendously for this to be another memorable season for the Stamps. Everything that went wrong last year seems to be going right this year so far. Here's hoping...

He made it through rookie camp but the Dolphins signed a couple of players and it turned into a numbers game.

Would you consider taking Doug Brown and Brendan Labatte from us for Dmitri???
Doug is an unblockable monster with a compassionate heart who's always near the play - Labatte is a terrific blocker, even better if he's not blocking beside a stiff like Obby Khan.

I hope this is a sarcastic post seeing as how all you've talked about this year is how Doug Brown has been. All of a sudden, he's an unblockable monster?

Would you take this rusty albanian dime, and this used diaper bag for your wife or girlfriend.
The dime is a dime, and the diaper bag repels mosquitos

Can't wait for Dimitri to return, if no other NFL team picks him up he might be willing to commit to the Stamps for a while. It will be good to get back at least half of the top draft picks from 2008.

Crossing my fingers that we get him back into the fold. It would be great to bring him back.

I think Dimitri was a free agent, wasn't he? If that's the case, then he could sign anywhere. I expect that we'd get first crack at him, and I sure hope we are willing to spend what it takes to sign him. With all the vets who walked away and were replaced by young players, we must have some money available. I'd even be okay if we had to release/trade someone like George to get the deal with Tsoumpas done.
He could play his old right guard position and make our offensive line that much stronger and deeper. He could also play right tackle and allow us to play four import receivers. Guys like Tsoumpas make the cornerstone of your football team and we cannot let him walk away.

For once I'm answering one of your questions instead of the other way around Chill.
This article from the Toronto Sun should answer your question.
Quote:
The Calgary Stampeders offensive line could get a big boost in the next couple weeks.
Former starting right guard Dimitri Tsoumpas was released by the Miami Dolphins Thursday and there is now a 10-day period in which the 24-year-old Edmonton native can sign with another team.
If no other NFL team picks him up, he becomes Stampeders property for the remainder of this season.
“From what I understand, Dimitri is looking at his options,” said Stamps head coach John Hufnagel. “We’re pleased with the way our offensive line has performed through the start of this season, but if he decides to come back to Calgary, we definitely would be happy to have him.”
Tsoumpas didn’t miss a snap over two seasons with the Stamps before signing an option-year deal with the Fish this winter.
The 6-foot-4, 315-lb. guard was the team’s nominee for top Canadian last year and the hole he left had the Stamps auditioning replacements this spring.
Steve Myddelton won the starting right-guard job out of training camp and the team is happy with the work the rookie has done there.
But Tsoumpas is an impact player and his work ethic is second to none. He was a first round pick in 2008 (second overall) and he helped the Stamps win the Grey Cup that season.
Tsoumpas will spend the next 24 hours on waivers but then could sign with a different team over the next 10 days
|
According to this he did sign an option year deal with the Dolphins meaning unless he is picked up by another NFL club he will remain Stampeder property. And remember this is from a newspaper in Toronto, the center of the universe, so it must be true.
This is exciting news for the Stamps. Now if only Jesse Newman would un-retire.
I too would be very interested in the idea of starting Tsoumpas at tackle. I would love to see us be able to get more import receivers on the field. One Canadian out there at a time is about perfect given the makeup of our receiving corp. We are talent rich for imports and talent poor for non-imports. I maintain that I think Ryan Thelwell is our best option for right now, but he is aging and starting to have health issues. After him I'd put a preference on Jabari Arthur seeing playing time.
Regardless of how the coaches work it out Tsoumpas will make our offensive line that much stronger. That goes without saying considering he'll immediately become the best player on the unit. Not only that but he will give the coaches the ability to get our best receivers on the field rather than be handicapped by being forced to play an inferior player simply because of his birth certificate.
